Applied Math Travel Funds

The Applied Math Program at UIUC will provide matching funds for several types of activities for the Spring of 2006:

  • Visits to National Labs by graduate students.
  • Attendance at conferences by graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Preference will be given to students who are presenting papers.
  • Collaborative visits by graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

The Program may fund up to 7 such activities, with a maximum of $600 per activity.

How to Apply

Requests for funding should be made to applied_funds@math.uiuc.edu. The deadline for such requests is March 1.

The request (in .pdf format) should include:

  • A statement of other sources of funding (and the amount)
  • A CV of the applicant
  • A description (up to 3 pages) of the significance of the publication within the sphere of Applied Mathematics. It is expected that the resulting activity will produce mathematical novelty or an interesting new application of a known mathematical technique.
  • If the request is for funds to present a paper at a conference, please include a copy of the paper if possible (a working draft is acceptable).

In the case of support to present papers at conferences, the Applied Math program requires a hyperlink to the paper (to put on the applied math web site).
